The baby registry for parents who shop secondhand.

You know secondhand items can offer better quality, better value, and less waste. So why should your baby registry force your loved ones to buy everything new?

Start your registry See a live registry

A cash fund that looks like a registry.

Loved ones contribute to each secondhand item you purchase. It looks like any other registry: a list of items to pick from. Unlike a typical cash fund, contributions go toward specific items, not a general pot, so everyone knows exactly what they are gifting.

How it works

  1. 1. Find and buy it secondhand

Buy what you need for your baby on Facebook Marketplace, local groups, or secondhand stores. A stroller, a crib, a bundle of clothes, or anything else you will need.

  2. 2. List it on your registry

Add a photo, description, and the price you paid. If you want to buy the item later, estimate what you will pay.

  3. 3. Loved ones fund it

Friends and family contribute toward the item as they would with any registry gift. No account needed. Several people can chip in on the same item, and contributors abroad can give in their own currency.

Let their gifts go further.

You don't need to buy everything new. Your loved ones shouldn't have to either.

With Kontribu, they see exactly what gift they are giving you: the item, the photo, the price, and a space for a personal note. Because secondhand costs less, their budget goes further toward better-made things you'll actually use instead of paying a premium for "new."

It's a better way to give: more value for you, more impact for them, and less waste.

FAQs

Everything you should know about funding secondhand items on Kontribu

What is Kontribu?

Kontribu is the baby registry for parents who shop secondhand. List anything you've found secondhand, a Marketplace stroller, a crib, a bundle of clothes, and loved ones fund it the way they would any registry gift. You buy it yourself, whenever and wherever you want. Guests need no account: browse the list, pick an item, and pay by card.

Can I register secondhand baby items on Kontribu?

Yes, that's exactly what Kontribu is built for. Add items from Facebook Marketplace, thrift stores, consignment shops, or local sellers, including things you've already bought and want funded, or items you're saving up for.

Do I need to already own the item to list it?

No. List it either way: buy it first and get funded after, or estimate the price, list it before you buy, then purchase it once it's funded.

How is Kontribu different from a cash fund or traditional registry?

It looks and works like a registry, not a cash fund: loved ones pick specific items to fund, so everyone knows exactly what they're gifting, instead of giving to one general pot. And unlike a traditional registry, you can list anything, secondhand or new.

Can more than one person fund the same item?

Yes. Several people can chip in on the same item, so no one has to cover the full cost alone.

How do payments work on Kontribu?

Contributions are processed securely through Stripe. You connect your own Stripe account, manage payouts from your dashboard, and transfer funds to your bank account. Guests pay by credit card with no account needed: they browse your list, pick an item, and pay. Gifters pay a Kontribu platform fee (2.5%, capped at $5) on top of the amount you receive.

Can family and friends abroad contribute?

Yes. Kontribu supports contributions from 43 countries via Stripe, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, and more across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Built in Montreal for families who don't all live in the same place.

What currencies are supported?

Each registry uses the currency of the country you select when you create your account, and contributions are processed in that same currency. Supported currencies include AED, AUD, BGN, BRL, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, GIP, HKD, HUF, JPY, MXN, NOK, NZD, PLN, RON, SEK, SGD, THB, USD.

What languages can I write registry items in?

Choose English, French, or both when you create your registry. Item names and descriptions are entered in each language you enable. The Kontribu website itself is available in English and French, with more languages planned.

How much does Kontribu cost?

Creating and hosting your registry is free, no subscription, no hidden costs. Gifters pay a Kontribu platform fee (2.5%, capped at $5) on top of their contribution, so families receive the full gift amount. Standard Stripe card processing fees also apply per contribution (typically around 2.9% + 30¢) and go directly to Stripe, not Kontribu. Bank withdrawals are free.

Can I still register for new items?

Yes. Kontribu is built around secondhand, but you can list new items too.

Can I add perinatal support or baby activities, like a doula or a class?

Yes. List any service or class with a target amount, doula support, lactation or sleep consultants, prenatal or postpartum classes, CPR training, and more, and loved ones fund it the same way they would a stroller or crib.
